As you learn to play the flute, attending regular flute classes in Folsom is integral to your accomplishment. The moments you spend with your instructor are filled with useful information and wise insight. The hard part is getting it all to stick. The following are a few tips to take full advantage of your flute classes:
Before the class
Ø Eat – Nothing is more off-putting than a growling stomach. Eat a good meal before the class, so you will be fueled and geared up to play.
Ø Brace up yourself – Show up to each class braced and geared up to be trained. Working hard in the days leading up to the class will let you make improvements each week.
Ø Review the class material without the instrument – Going over fingerings, pieces, and other class material away from the instrument is a good way to warm up the brain before a class. You will be surprised at how much you retain information when you come back to the instrument.
During the class
Ø Be engaged and stay focused – It is simple to let your mind stroll when the instructor rattles on about alternate fingerings, harmonic overtones, and melodic minor scales. However, stay focused! Be as attentive as possible, and make an effort to soak up everything the instructor says like a sponge.
Ø Ask questions – If you do not understand something, do not be scared to say so. The instructor just wants to help you get better, so if something is not clear, just ask the instructor.
Ø Record it – Recording your lessons is a wonderful approach to simply assess the feedback of the instructor later. However, it is always important to ask for permission before you hit record.
After the class
Ø Take notes in the flute journal – You will be given a lot of helpful information during the classes. Write them down in a notebook or journal as you go along. That way, you will not forget when you are practicing during the week.
Ø Review – Keep the class notes structured and detailed. Even something as uncomplicated as reviewing the notes on the car ride home will help the flute playing immensely.
Ø Practice as soon as you get home – Practicing after the lesson is a wonderful approach to make certain everything sticks. Go over what the instructor helped you with during the class. Take everything that your instructor said a step further, and see what sort of advancement you can make on your own.
Attentiveness, hard work, and preparation are the keys to getting the most from your beginner flute classes in Folsom.

Have fun, stay focused, and find out something new while playing your instrument every day, and it is sure that you will get to gain knowledge of something new every time. There are a lot of things to take care of in order to make the most of your flute lessons and a lot of those things will be communicated to you by your instructor. So, make sure you do not miss any of your lessons!
